Engineering Manager

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our engineering department and help us build great products. You’ll manage our infrastructure and ensure all internal systems operate securely and effectively. To be successful in this role, you should be confident in managing our teams while, at the same time, setting goals and timelines for various projects. We also expect you to be in charge of our integrations with external partners and oversee all software development plans from ideation to execution. Ultimately, you’ll make sure we use innovative technologies that maximise our productivity and help our company grow.

You'll be responsible for

  • Utilising 50% of your time for hands-on development, and the other 50% to enable the Engineering team.
  • Overseeing front-end and back-end development teams and their projects.
  • Leveraging your technical depth as a hands-on developer and architect to push your team towards a high standard of technical excellence.
  • Leading a culture of innovation and experimentation, supporting the full software development lifecycle that incorporates the best of technology approaches and delivery methodologies.
  • Monitoring reliability and performance of all internal systems and suggesting improvements.
  • Ensuring compliance with security regulations.
  • Managing software development projects by setting requirements, goals, and timelines.
  • Designing strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources.
  • Hiring engineers and coordinating their training.
  • Implementing innovative technologies
  • Coordinating with external stakeholders for new integrations and tools.
  • Reviewing and updating policies relevant to internal systems.
  • Taking initiative to explore, evangelise, and implement innovative technologies within the business in order to improve the business’s internal platforms as well as customer experience.
  • Providing support and leadership to development departments, facilitating continuous evolution in both the frontend and backend development teams.
  • Performing similar duties as deemed fit for the proper execution of duties as delegated by the CEO.

You need

  • Work experience as an Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, CTO, or in a similar senior-level position at an engineering department.
  • Proven experience in building high-performance teams and scalable best-practices in an engineering organisation.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven experience in architecture, design, and delivery of data-intensive applications.
  • Hands-on experience in back-end and front-end development.
  • Good understanding of agile methodologies.
  • Leadership abilities with a strategic mind.
  • To have previous experience managing engineering teams, accompanied by a passion for your team's well-being, and optimising software engineering models.
  • To be excited at the challenge of recruiting, on-boarding, training and managing software engineers.
  • To be knowledgeable about cloud Platforms like AWS, GCP, etc.
  • To have knowledge of executing CI/CD pipelines, and to know about Chef, Terraform, Jenkins or equivalent.
  • To have strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, memory management, concurrency.
  • To have a documented approach to development: you consistently write unit tests, document your code, and follow team processes.
  • To put security first, with a deep understanding of infrastructure vulnerabilities and how to protect our apps against them.
  • To be a problem solver and to always be on the lookout for ways to improve our code, processes, and team.
